Circus Train Exhibit, Kassidy Lynch, Spring 2021

I served as instructor of record for an independent study with graphic design student, Kassidy Lynch. Under my direction, she worked with the L&N Railpark/Historic Train Museum to create their newest exhibit, “When the Circus Traveled by Train.” She worked with museum staff to learn the history of the content and then developed a visual solution for the exhibit. She spent time researching exhibition design strategies and best practices as well as measuring and planning for the designated exhibit space. Throughout the semester Kassidy met with museum staff for an initial idea pitch and progress check-ins throughout the process. The exhibit is currently in production and is slated to installed and debuted in Fall 2021. The images below document Kassidy’s process and research.

Department of Art & Design Promo Video

This promotional video is a collaboration between WKU Art & Design and WKU Film. The project began in Spring 2020 and was stalled due to courses moving online in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. I worked with the Spring 2020 Advanced Media Design course to develop a focus group and we brainstormed and developed a concept/direction for the video. I coordinated with WKU Film students and arranged shooting schedules for each concentration area. The project was later completed and finished in Spring 2021. I worked with Film and Animation student Chris Lambert to edit and compile the video footage into a seamless promotional piece. Under my direction, student Heather Bensinger created icons to represent each concentration area.

Railroads Go To War, Exhibition Design

In Fall 2018 the Advanced Media Design course worked with the L & N Railpark/Museum to develop exhibition designs for their upcoming exhibits “Railroads Go to War” and “Women in Railroading”. Students teamed up into small groups and worked on their exhibit topic. They were given research documents and links to images that could be used in the exhibits. The students spent time researching exhibit design best practices in regards to legibility, accessibility, and designing for an interactive space. Throughout the semester students met with museum staff for an initial pitch and multiple checkpoints to receive feedback regarding their concepts and designs. The semester culminated in the student teams presenting their exhibits to the museum board of directors at an open house gala. To date, all exhibits have been printed and produced with the last two exhibits currently in production and slated to be installed/unveiled in Fall 2021.
